If you are interested in getting an AncestryDNA test kit and using Ancestry genealogy services to build your family tree and find DNA matches, you probably want to know when and where you can get the best deals!

Unfortunately, few third-party companies can offer legitimate deals or coupon codes for AncestryDNA tests or Ancestry subscription services. Many sites claim to have “coupon codes," “special offers," or "promo codes." However, these sites typically just lead you on an endless quest of trying old codes and being redirected to other sites. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t get a good deal…

The fact is, the best deals on AncestryDNA test kits are found directly on the Ancestry.com website. The real trick is timing. To get the absolute best deal, you have to buy a DNA testing kit at the right time.

This article breaks down the absolute best deals that Ancestry offers, and when you can access those extraordinary deals! Check it out!

The Best Ancestry Sale Events

The AncestryDNA sales below were compiled through historical records of Ancestry.com and contain all of the major holidays that Ancestry typically offers great deals.

You can get an overview of all of Ancestry’s products in our full review. In general, Ancestry offers two DNA test kits based on a saliva sample: the AncestryDNA kit and the AncestryHealth Core kit. The AncestryDNA kit covers genetic ethnicity estimates for various geographic regions, a DNA relative finder, and can show you how much Neanderthal and other ancient DNA you have. The AncestryHealth kit adds several genetic health risk reports and wellness reports to your genetic ethnicity test, so you can better understand your genetic health. Ancestry helps millions of people find family connections and is developing a platform to help you track your family health history with family history records. (Though Ancestry health reports are not quite as numerous as the health conditions reported by 23andMe.)

As we look at the deals Ancestry offers, keep in mind the normal prices of Ancestry products in the United States:

Ancestry + Traits Service = $99

Health + Ancestry = $179

Now, check out all of the sales that are offered by Ancestry:

Christmas Sale (December 25, 2020)

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = No Discount

2019

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = $99

2020

AncestryHealth = $99

Starting in early December, Ancestry bumps the price back up to $59 on AncestryDNA kits. But, last year AncestryHealth was on sale for $99 - a considerable discount. (The price used to be $149 for the AncestryHealth kit, so it was approximately a $50 discount. In 2020, the original price went to $179 - so the discount price may be something like $129.)

Mother’s Day Sale (Second Sunday in May - May 9, 2021)

Starts around Easter - Ends Mother’s Day

2019

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = No Discount

2020

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = $99

Interestingly, Mother’s Day (and Father’s Day) bring significant discounts on Ancestry products. Both DNA test kits have significant discounts. The AncestryHealth kit is discounted as much as it is during the Winter/Christmas sale, so May and June are great months to buy DNA testing kits.

Father’s Day Sale (Third Sunday in June - June 20, 2021)

Starts Early June - Ends Father’s Day

2019

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = No Discount

2020

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = $99

Father’s Day discounts included a $40 discount on AncestryDNA and a $50 discount on AncestryHealth in 2020. In 2021, these discounts in June may be similar and could bring the new-and-improved AncestryHealth test down to $129. User beware - your test results may tell you that your father is not actually your biological father...

Summer Sale

Starts early July - Ends near the End of August

2019

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = No Discount

2020

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = $129

Special Offer = 3 month membership of Ancestry Subscription for $1 with an AncestryHealth kit

Though this sale has not been consistent over the last 2 years, summer may be a good time to get a significant discount on AncestryHealth tests! Be on the lookout for significant savings starting in July, and typically ending near the middle-to-end of August. Plus, during this period Ancestry sometimes offers very low-cost subscriptions to their historical records database. However, these are not the best deals you can get on DNA testing kits throughout the year.

Winter Sale

Starts Early November - Ends Black Friday

2018

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = No Discount

2019

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = No Discount

2020

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = $99

Starting in early November, you can get access to a great deal on AncestryDNA kits for only $59. But, for those looking for discounts on DNA testing services from Ancestry, you will typically have to wait for other times of the year!

Black Friday Sale (Friday after Thanksgiving)

Starts Day After Thanksgiving -  Ends Cyber Monday

2018

AncestryDNA = $49

AncestryHealth = No Discount

2019

AncestryDNA = No Records

AncestryHealth = No Records

2020

AncestryDNA = $59

AncestryHealth = No Discount

Unfortunately, the Wayback Machine did not capture Ancestry.com during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales of 2019. However, in 2018 the company offered significant discounts on their AncestryDNA kits - making this a great time to track down long-lost family members. This limited time offer only lasts a few days. You can also check prices on Amazon during this period, as Amazon Prime may have slightly better discounts on some DNA test kits.

Forget Ancestry Coupons - When to Buy Specific DNA Test Kits on Sale

With all the different deals, it can be a bit confusing when you should buy the different kits Ancestry has to offer. So, we’ll break it down for you!

AncestryDNA Service

The best prices on AncestryDNA kits seem to come during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, though historical records for 2020 were not available. But, in 2018, ancestry kits were discounted by 50%!

AncestryHealth Service

The best deal that we found on AncestryHealth services were a $50 discount, found several times throughout the year. Historically, these massive discounts are available during Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Summer Sale periods.

Ancestry Historical Records Subscription

Unfortunately for those trying to do in-depth genealogical research on their families, subscriptions to Ancestry’s historical records service are very hard to come by. The one exception that we found was a random offer in July 2020. For this offer, you had to purchase a discounted AncestryHealth kit and for $1 more you got 3 months of the World Explorer membership subscription package. Outside of these rare offers, you will have to pay a steep price for a subscription.

What about 23andMe?

Ancestry’s biggest competitor is 23andMe. While there are some differences, the DNA results from these companies are very similar. You can check out our page on the best 23andMe deals and sales to directly compare these two titans of the genetic testing industry!

We Got Your Back!

If you use this article, you can be sure that you are getting the absolute lowest price on Ancestry DNA test kits. But, did you know that you can get tons of free information after your Ancestry test?? There are many sites that offer an extra analysis of your raw DNA data - which you can download from Ancestry after your DNA sample has been processed.

Some sites (like Genomelink) even offer you a free sample of the types of information you can learn! Learn about things like nutrition, fitness, personality, and more! You can check out our full list of the Best DNA Upload Sites to find the site that is right for you.
